This stone is beautiful but it also comes with an amazing story. L' Aigle is a L6 meteorite that fell on 26 April 1803 in Lower Normandy, France. Upon hearing of this fall the French Academy of Sciences sent out a young scientist by the name of Jean-Baptiste Biot to see if he could figure out what had just happened. After painstakingly working to identify the stones he came to the conclusion that they were indeed extraterrestrial. This was based off the ideas that there were many stones of similar appearance in one area that resembled previous stones they had already confirmed to be ET. But also because of the numerous witnesses that observed the "rain of stones thrown by the meteor". Biot wrote a very passionate paper describing how these stones must have certainly come from space.
This gave birth to the field of meteoritics.
Other parts of this meteorite are stored at the Museum d'histoire naturelle d'Angers, a French natural history museum.
